Venturing Powderhorn...
Powder Horn is a training opportunity designed to expose the Venturing or Boy Scout leader to activities and resources necessary to operate a successful Venturing Ranger Award or Troop High Adventure program

Powder Horn Training - for advisors

What is Venturing?
Venturing is an adventure based program for young men and young women ages 14-20. It is an exciting youth-planned, youth-run program. Venturers develop new interests, learn new skills, go to interesting places, conquer many challenges, make new friends, learn and practice leadership, and most of all have fun.

What do Venturers do?
Venturers do a wide variety of things. They climb rocks, scuba, sail, camp, dance, bowl, ski, bike, picnic, travel, etc. Just about anything you can dream of doing, Venturers do. Each crew decides what they are going to do, when and where. The best crews are the ones where the youth members are involved and active.

How do I join a Crew?
Call the council office at 847-824-6880 for a contact for the crew you are interested in. Then call the contact to arrange for a visit or just to find out more about it. After you have visited and you decide to join, fill out the Venturing Membership Application. Your crew will guide you in what to do next.

How do I start a new Crew?
New crews are starting up every day. You might start one yourself. Possible new crews could specialize in aviation, horseback riding, snow sports, archeology, hunting & fishing, cycling & mountain biking, or whatever you're interested in. Crews can also simply be general outdoors adventure, arts and hobbies, sports, religious life or water activities oriented. The choice is yours! All it takes is at least 5 young men and/or young women 14 to 20 years old along with some adults to help. The adults can be parents, teachers, church youth ministers, or even older brothers & sisters over 21, etc. If you want to start a new crew, call the council office at 847-824-6880.
